Lake Arrowhead, California A Day, A Week, or a Lifetime.... The small town of Lake Arrowhead, sometimes known as 'Little Switzerland' has a quaint alpine style village with red roofs on the shoreline of the private lake. Entering the village, the scent of pine and incense cedar trees tease your senses. Everyone loves to come to this beautiful mountain so conveniently close to Los Angeles, Orange County, Palm Springs, during all four seasons. Thanksgiving is a favorite. Originally known as Little Bear Lake, the private lake has 14 1/2 miles of shoreline, an average depth of 100 feet, deepest point is 185 feet. The lake never freezes in the winter months. The 'blue tower' that stands in the middle of the lake near the marina is 195 ft high and was originally designed to convey water to San Bernardino and Riverside for irrigation. It has never been used. After the Sylmar earthquake, the old dam was retrofit with a new dam creating Papoose Lake. Once also known as the 'World's Biggest Back Lot' because of the number of movies that have been filmed in the region including Magnificent Obsession, The American President, Heidi, The Yearling, Parent Trap and Space Jam. Although you must be a property owner within Arrowhead Woods to use the lake itself, there is plenty to do with a private Golf Course and Yacht Club dates back to the 1930's. We also have a local Water Ski Race team. A mere 13 miles to Snow Valley Ski area. It is a beautiful drive on the Rim of the World scenic highway. So make it a point to 'Come up for Air' and try an adventure to our area if you have never been. It could just a be a day, a week, or a lifetime.... |
